Important information for IDE/ATAPI based CDROM devices

Supported Operating Systems...

  • IDE CDROM recorders are supported under Windows 95 only!!

  • The 32-bit DOS version also supports IDE CDROM recorders under Windows 95.

  • The 16-bit DOS version does not support IDE CDROM devices (and never will).

  • Support for IDE CDROM readers will be added in a future version.

  • Support for Windows NT will be added in a future version.

ASPI Drivers...

To use any IDE/ATAPI based CDROM device with our software, you must have the necessary Windows 95 ASPI drivers installed on your system that support IDE devices. At the present time, these drivers are only available to people who already have Adaptec's "Easy CD Creator" software installed on their system (or own an Adaptec SCSI card and/or EZ-SCSI software).

If you own one of the above Adaptec products, then download and install the following file from Adaptec's FTP site...
ftp://ftp.adaptec.com/pub/BBS/win95/aspi32.exe

If you do NOT own one of the Adaptec products listed above, then you can get the ASPI drivers from the following FTP site... ftp://ftp.tardis.ed.ac.uk/users/psyche/cdrom/drivers/aspiw95.exe

The following files will be installed/updated on your system...

  • WINDOWS\SYSTEM\ASPIENUM.VXD
  • WINDOWS\SYSTEM\WINASPI.DLL
  • WINDOWS\SYSTEM\WNASPI32.DLL
  • WINDOWS\SYSTEM\IOSUBSYS\APIX.VXD
WARNING: You are strongly encouraged to make a backup of the above files before installing the new drivers. If you have any problems with the new drivers, then restore all four files and reboot your machine.

NOTE: Golden Hawk Technology is not licensed by Adaptec to distribute these drivers with our software, which is why you must download and install them separately before attempting to use any IDE CDROM devices with our products. If you already have "Easy CD Creator" installed on your system, then you will probably not have to install any additional drivers.

!!! If you are not willing to install these ASPI drivers, then do not order our software !!!

NOTE #1: The Memorex CRW-1622 was scheduled to be supported in the current release, but we do not have enough technical information to add support at this time.

NOTE #2: Support for other IDE recorders will not be added until April 1998. The list of models to be supported is not known yet.

NOTE #3: We have not tested any of the "parallel port" models (so they may or may not work).

Disc-at-once recording is fully supported for all of the above recorders as long as you have the specified firmware version (or higher). Hewlett Packard does not currently have a version 2.02 upgrade for their 7100 series recorders, so you will have to upgrade your unit with the firmware that is available for the Philips CDD3610. This is available from the following web site...

This upgrade was only intended to update the CDD3610. To use it on the HP7100/7110 recorders, you must edit the file ATAFLASH.INI

Change the line...

"PHILIPS CDD3610 CD-R/RW"
to the following...
"HP      CD-Writer+ 7100"
