Start First Class. 2. The program will ask you for the settings file. Click on CANCEL, pull down the "File" menu, and select "New". When you are asked for a folder and file name, enter the location and file name of your choice. 3. Pick "Modem.FCP" from the "Connect Via" section, and click on "Setup". 4. For the Protocol type, choose "Serial". 5. In the "Connection" section, set the modem type, modem port, dial type(under Phone), speaker status, and any scripts, if applicable. 6. Under cable options, if you are using the appropriate cable, set the following: H/W Handshaking ON DTR Hang-up OFF Carrier Detect ON 7. Under Speed Option, set the following: Auto Speed OFF Baud Rate 38400 8. Save all your changes. 9. You should now be back to the original setup screen. Here you can insert your User ID, Password, and Phone number or network connection. The settings file is now complete. Note: Except for the Courier HST init string, all the other U.S. Robotics init strings are identical. The init string is: ATS0=0V1E1X4&A1&H0&R1&B0&K0&M0M0&C0&D0\r, and the "/r" at the end of the string is a carriage return and should always be present. The initialization string essentially disables everything. After the above init string is sent to the modem, other commands are sent, based on the settings in your setup file.
