Manufacturer/Support Quarterdeck Corporation/Datastorm 13160 Mindanao Way Suite 300 Marina Del Rey, CA 90292 (573)875-0530 - Tech Support bbs.datastorm.com - Telnet BBS GO DATASTORM - CompuServe Procomm Plus v3.0 for Windows: DIP Switches: 3, 5, and 8 DOWN(ON) During the initial installation, the software will copy files onto your system. Once the files are copied onto your hard drive, the modem setup section will begin. The first thing you will be asked is if you want the software to autodetect your modem. Check "Yes, have PROCOMM PLUS automatically detect my modems(s)" and click next. Procomm will detect the first modem it finds and display it to you, as shown below. We found that the autodetect program accurately detected most of our modems, with the exception of the Courier I-Modem. If you have other modems on your system, which you would like the software to be aware of, click on "Continue Search". Once the software is done finding all the modems in your system, click on "Next". Fill out the dialing information for your area. Once the initial setup is complete, go into the system setup section to make sure your modem was properly configured. To do this, click on "Setup", then "Setup...". You are now in the configuration screen. CHANGE PORT: In the setup section, make sure you are on the "System Screen"(tabs on top of the screen). Click on "System Connection". Here you can select the COM Port the modem is on and define new modems. Make sure that "Drop DTR to hang-up", and "Drop DTR between calls" are both checked. CHANGE IRQ: This program uses the settings in the Windows Control Panel. INIT STRING: In the setup section, click on the "Data" tab. Next click on "Data Connection". Here you can set your init string. We suggest an init string of AT&F&C1&D2X7&H1&R2&B1&A3^M. Your Port Rate can also be set on this screen. If you have a 14.4k modem, set the Port Rate to 19200, and if you have a 21.6k or faster modem, set the port rate to 38400 or higher. Make sure that "Use hardware flow control" and "Send CR between data calls" are both checked. Under "Commands", make sure that "Default error-correction & data compression method" is set to Auto Reliable. Note: On the same screen, but under "Messages", make sure that "Auto baud detect" is not checked. TERMINAL MODE: You can select either the Procomm Plus icon or the "Data Terminal" icon. Both start you in Terminal Mode. Note: Although the Courier I-Modem is in the modem list, Procomm could not automatically detect what type of modem it was. If you have a Courier I-Modem, choose a manual install of the modem. To enter setup, after installation, click on the rainbow, screwdriver and monitor pictured button. This will bring you to the "Current Setup" dialog box. There are a number of buttons on the left hand side of the screen which change the current dialog box. CHANGE PORT: Click on the "Data/Modem Connection" button and make sure the "Connection Setup" button is selected. Under "Selected Port", you can change your COM Port and Port Speed. Make sure that the two check boxes on this screen, "Use DTR to hang up" and "Use hardware flow control" are checked. CHANGE IRQ: This program uses the settings in Windows Control Panel. INIT STRING: Click on the "Data Modem Commands" button, then "Advanced". The init string should be "AT&F&C1&D2X7&H1&R2&K3&B1&A3^M", and the "Command Suffix" "^M". TERMINAL MODE: Program begins in terminal mode. From the "Connect Messages" dialog box, make sure that "Auto Baud Detect" is not checked, and the locked baud connect message is "CONNECT". Unless your modem supports Distinctive Ring or Caller ID, these dialog boxes will not be used. To change how your modem answers, click on "Answer Options" on the left hand side of the "Current Setup" dialog box. At the top of the dialog box, you can select between "Off", "Data", "Fax" and the number of rings. To setup faxing, click on the "Fax Connection" button on the left hand side of the screen. From here you can set the Port, Flow control, Fax Class, maximum transmit and receive rates, and initialization string. The fax initialization string must match the options chosen. We recommend using hardware flow control, Class 1, and 14400 maximum transmit and receive rates with an initialization string of "AT&F&C1&D2X7&H1&R2&K3&B1&A3^M". Note: This software does not support Class 2.0 fax, therefore, it WILL NOT adaptively answer with our modems. Note: The modem choices when you install this software include all Courier models up to the Courier Dual Standard 28800. You can also choose from the Sportster 14400, Worldport 14400, and Worldport 2496. If you own any of our v.FC/v.34, or faster modems, choose the Courier Dual Standard. CHANGE IRQ: Enter setup by typing "ALT-S", then "MODEM SETUP". Select "PORT ASSIGNMENTS" and change the IRQ to match your modem setting. INIT STRING: Enter setup by typing "ALT-S", then "MODEM SETUP". Select "MODEM COMMANDS" and change the init string to: AT&F&B1&H1&R2&A3&K3X4^M TERMINAL MODE: Program begins in terminal mode. Type Alt-S, then enter the terminal options. Make sure software(XON/XOFF) flow control is disabled, and hardware (RTS/CTS) flow control is enabled. Under Modem Options, select General Options and make sure Autobaud Detect is OFF. In Result Messages, make sure all of the connection messages read "CONNECT" instead of "CONNECT^M" for 300, "CONNECT 1200" for 1200, etc. Note: If you have Procomm Plus v2.0 for DOS (NOT v2.01 - you can check by hitting Alt-I from terminal mode), upgrade to v2.01.
