Manufacturer/Support PanComm 18477 Edminton Drive Cupertino, CA 95014 Fax: (408) 865-0110 valuefax@netcom.com - Email Support ValueFax 2.0.4: DIP Switches: 1, 3, 5, and 8 DOWN (ON) ValueFax can be installed to work using either a Class 1 or a Class 2(not 2.0) modem. Our modems support class 1 and class 2.0. Class 2 is not a fax standard, where Class 2.0 is. The two are not interchangable. When installing the software, select Class 1 Fax. The installation places files in the following folders: In the Macintosh HD: * Valuefax 2.0.4 folder: * ValueFax Information * Valuefax Registration * ValueFax Release Notes * ValueFax Users Guide On the Desktop: * ValueFax Manager In the System Folder: * Apple Menu Items: * FaxStatus * Quickfax * Extensions: * ValueFax Background * ValueFax fax driver * ValueFax Fax Folder: * convDebug * debug * Phone Book * Received Faxes * received faxes folder * temp received faxes * Sent Faxes * setup * xmitdebug * Code Data This program allows you to fax out from any program that has a print option. Setting up to print is fairly straightforward. All that needs to be set is the Cover Page, Dialing Options, Background Operation and Direct Fax Keys. These are located in the ValueFax Manager under the Setup menu. The Cover Page Option is self-explanatory. Under Dialing Options, you can set the Dialing Mode, Dial Tone detect, Volume, Speaker, various Prefixes(for connecting to an outside line, etc.), area code and which port the modem is connected to. Under Background Options, you can select how many times you want to retry a fax, and at what intervals and how many rings the modem picks up on(if it picks up at all. None signifies no auto receive). Under Direct Fax Keys, you can define which key or keys signify that you wish to send a fax. This is a shortcut key combination to eliminate the need to use the Chooser to send a fax. You now need to open a file called setup. It is located in the ValueFax folder under the System Folder. The file is a Teachtext document, so open it with an editor. Near the end of the file, make the following setting changes: Modem Model USR HST XON/XOFF flow control string AT&H2&I2 Note: Do not place AT&F OR ATZ in the Init String. The software sends AT+FCLASS=1 after the init string, so placing &F or Z in the string will reset the modem back to data mode. Note: We have noticed that it takes a while for the background fax portion to fully grab and release the port, so it may cause error messages (modem not responding, etc.) when quickly moving from one communications program to another. For information purposes, below is a list of the strings sent to the modem and the modem responses.
