Troubleshooting the Mac CX and 32-Bit Access

Issue:
     *  System 7.1 update for 32-bit
     *  Addressed on a Mac CX.
     *  When running MacComCenter or America On-line, your computer
        errors with an error message of 3 "illegal instruction".
     *  This error message may also occur when running Quicktime and some
        other applications.

Solution:
     If you turn this feature off, the system will work fine.
     
     What is happening, is the Mac IICX has ROMs which are not,
     according to Apple, "32-bit clean". In other words, there are
     issues with 32-bit addressing with this model Apple. There are
     two solutions for this problem:
     
          *  If you are using System 7.1 or later, obtain the 32-Bit System
             Enabler from Apple.
          *  Download MODE32 from Connectix.
