Upgrading your Sportster v.FC or v.34 Modem to 33.6k
If you own a Sportster v.FC or Sportster v.34 modem, either for the PC
or the Macintosh, you can upgrade to 33.6k! If you already have a 33.6k
modem, request document 13015 to see the latest firmware available for
your model.  Depending on the modem you own, you may need to order the
33.6k Upgrade Kit, which includes a user-installable e-prom chip, or you
can send your modem in and we will install it for you.  Depending on your
modem, it may be a simple software upgrade. To place your order, call

call in, be sure to have your modem's serial number ready.

Ordering through the BBS
To place your order through the BBS, dial (847)982-5092 with your modem.
Once logged in, type SPV34 at the main prompt and the system will prompt
you along. Please have your credit card information ready. 

Upgrading the Winmodem
To receive the Winmodem upgrade from 28.8k to 33.6k, or to receive the
latest code revision, download WINM336.EXE from our BBS(847-982-5092),
or ftp site(ftp.usr.com).

Upgrading your Sportster DSVD Modem
To upgrade your Sportster DSVD modem to 33.6k, download DSVD-SDL.EXE from
our BBS(847-982-5092), or ftp site(ftp.usr.com).  If you have already
upgraded your DSVD modem to 33.6k then you do not need this file.

To extract the code, copy DSVD-SDL.EXE into a temporary directory and
type DSVD-SDL.  The program will extract several files.  Read the
included README.1ST file for instructions on using the code to update
your DSVD modem.

Upgrading your Sportster Vi Modem
The upgrade to 33.6k for the Sportster Vi is free.  Look at your 16-digit
serial number.  If it starts with 00027900 then it can be upgraded.  You
need to call 847-982-5151, or fax (847-676-7314) in the following
information to receive the upgrade:

* First and last name
* Complete phone number
* Shipping address(street, city, state, zip)
* Your modems 16 digit serial number
* If you are faxing in the request, state on the fax that you are
  requesting the Sportster Vi 33.6k upgrade chip.

The Sportster Vi and x2 Technology(see above for 33.6k upgrade
information) The Vi product line was not built with the advanced
technology architecture necessary to support the x2 protocol. Since the
Vi product is an older architecture, and has been in the process of
being discontinued since July of 1996, it is not suitable for the x2
environment. Other products, shipping after August 15, 1996 have been
designed to support the x2 upgrade.
