In a constellation where IPX has been bound to a LAN adapter and the Digi Columbus Client (former ix1-connect/WS) simultaneously, only one of the connected IPX networks is accessible, once remote access connection via Digi Columbus Client has been established.
The cause for this behavior lies in the conceptional structure of Novell's IPX protocol that does not allow use of IPX in a client system with more than one network adapter (such as LAN-Adapter, NDIS WAN Miniport, or Digi Columbus Client) on all interfaces at the same time.
The following figure shows a configuration in which NetBEUI is used in the local network of the remote client while the IPX connection to the company's server is established using the Digi Columbus Client:
The scenario shown above can for example be successfully used in the kind of installation environments which are not necessarily dependent on IPX in the local network. It should also be mentioned that the protocols used can certainly be exchanged without restriction (for example TCP/IP instead of NetBEUI).
