INTRODUCTION This document describes the device driver that supports the Digi devices listed below. The driver is for use in the Microsoft Windows 2000 and Windows XP environments. Refer to the following number when searching the Digi International Inc. Web site (www.digi.com) or the FTP site (ftp.digi.com) for the latest software package: 40002248_ 2. SUPPORTED PRODUCTS Digi AccelePort 2p Adapter Digi AccelePort 4p Adapter Digi AccelePort 8p Adapter Digi AccelePort 16p Adapter 3. KNOWN LIMITATIONS To use the adapter with serial printers, one has to reboot the system after device installation or after renaming ports. This is a known limitation of the Print Spooler, which does not detect changes in the list of available ports automatically. 4. DRIVER UPDATE WINDOWS 2000 ------------ To update a previously-installed device driver to a new driver, please follow these steps. a. First, run the program dgarcln.cmd to move the existing INF files for the adapter. This ensures that the new driver files will be installed instead of the old driver files. Dgarcln.cmd is part of the driver software package and can be found in the same directory as the new driver files. b. Next, navigate to the Device Manager and locate the device whose device driver is to be updated: o From the Desktop, right-click on "My Computer" o Select "Manage" o In the left-hand side of the Computer Management window, select "Device Manager" Locate the adapter to update: o In the right-hand side of the window, expand the device category entitled: "Multi-port serial adapters" o Right-click on the device to update o Choose "Properties" Begin the upgrade process: o Click the "Driver" tab o Click the "Update Driver..." button o Click "Next >" o Verify that the default option is selected, "Search for a suitable driver for my device (recommended)" o Click "Next >" o Deselect all options o Select the option, "Specify a location" o Click "Next >" o Enter the path to the new driver files and click "OK" o Click "Next >" c. Windows will display a "Digital Signature Not Found" message, explaining that the driver is not signed. Click "Yes" to continue the installation. One may see several of these warnings -- simply click "Yes" for each message to proceed with the upgrade. d. Windows will now install the new device driver for the adapter and its modems. e. Follow any other instructions to complete the installation. f. Click "Finish" to dismiss the Upgrade Device Driver Wizard. g. Repeat steps b. through f. for each device to be upgraded. WINDOWS XP ---------- The Windows XP upgrade process is very similar to the Windows 2000 upgrade process. a. First, run the program dgarcln.cmd to move the existing INF files for the adapter.
