How to Copy the PortServer and PortServer II's Configuration to a Text File in Windows 2000/XP
How to Copy the PortServer and PortServer II's Configuration to a Text File in Windows 2000/XP How to Copy the PortServer and PortServer II's Configuration to a Text File in Windows 2000/XP

Product Requirements:

  • PortServer/PortServer II
Procedure:

You will be using the CPCONF command to copy the PortServer II's configuration to a text file.  This way you can save it for future reference and/or email it to Digi International Technical Support for troubleshooting if requested to do so by a technician.

1.   To use CPCONF to copy the PortServer’s configuration to a text file, you will need to telnet into the Digi PortServer product.  To initiate the
telnet connection from Windows 2000 and Windows XP go to Start, Run.

2.   In the pop up window, type Telnet followed by the IP Address (see Figure 1) and click OK.

3.   You will now get the PortServer's login prompt.  You will want to log in as root.  The default password is dbps.
If you are logged in correctly, you will get the #> command prompt.  Type cpconf term and press Enter (see Figure 2).

4.   You will now see a great deal of data will scroll by.  When it is done, holding down the left mouse button, highlight the entire configuration after it
has finished printing on the screen.  Start from the bottom left moving to the top right (see Figure 3).

5.   Right-click on the highlighted section, with your mouse.  It won't prompt you for anything.  At this point open Notepad.

6.   Using Notepad or some similar applications, go to Edit, Paste.  The text from the clipboard should now appear in the Notepad session.

8.   You will now be able to go to the location you saved the configuration file to and view it, edit it, or email it to Digi International Technical
Support if requested by a technician.
