How to Upload the PortServer and PortServer II's Configuration File to a New or Completely Reset (Factory Default) Digi Device in Microsoft Windows
How to Upload the PortServer and PortServer II's Configuration File to a New or Completely Reset (Factory Default) Digi Device in Microsoft Windows   How to Upload the PortServer and PortServer II's Configuration File to a New or Completely Reset (Factory Default) Digi Device in Microsoft Windows

Product Requirements:

  • PortServer/PortServer II

The Digi Terminal Servers have the ability to store their configuration in a text file format.  This allows easy access to the configuration for back up, editing, and duplication purposes.  To download the current configuration file used one of the following processes:

In Windows NT/9x:
ftp://ftp.digi.com/support/techsupport/hardware/portserver/how_to_copy_the_portserver.htm

In Windows 2000/XP:
ftp://ftp.digi.com/support/techsupport/hardware/portserver/how_to_copy_the_portserver2000.htm

1.  To upload the configuration file to the PortServer, you will need the following application: http://ftp.digi.com/support/utilities/sts_els/tftpd.exe

Once you have downloaded this application, place it in the same directory where the PortServer's configuration file is located.  Start the application by double clicking on the executable.  It will open this small window as follows:

2.  Now connect to the PortServer you want to upload the configuration file to via telnet as shown below.  In this example, we will use a PortServer at IP address 10.1.4.93.

3.   In the telnet session log in as root and execute the following command to begin the upload process:
      cpconf fromhost

For Example, below you will see a configuration file from a Microsoft Windows PC with IP 10.1.4.108 using a configuration file named ps2.cfg:

4.  When the transfer is complete the TFTPD.exe window should look like this:
