EtherLite LED Interpretation EtherLite LED Interpretation
Symptom:
How to interpret the LEDs on the EtherLite
Solution:
The "Link" LED simply indicates that
the Ethernet chip believes it has a decent carrier on the line. This does
not necessarily guarantee that TCP/IP communications will be successful.
The "ON" LED flashes rapidly when the
unit is ready and waiting to be assigned an IP address by the bootp/DHCP server.
There is one code that is useful to know,
however. It is 67. This will be where the ON LED flashes 6
times, short pause, then 7 times, then a long pause. In other words, it
might look like:
......6..7......6..7......6..7......
The pattern repeats until the unit is powered off and
back on again. It means that the bootp or DHCP server has tried to assign
us an IP address that appears to already be in use on the network. Most times,
it's an "illegal" laptop on the net or a temporary test machine using
an unassigned IP address. Regardless, the solution is to either pick
another IP address (by reconfiguring bootp or DHCP), or by eliminating the
conflicting host, and then power cycling our unit so it can get an IP address it
can use.
NOTE: There are other codes that may show up on
this same LED, but if it's anything other than the 67 mentioned above, and power
cycling the unit doesn't fix it, the only solution is to send it in for repair.
The hardware is simply failing self test and will not function until it is
repaired.
