Windows 95/98 does
not recognize the Datafire GO! Pro card when inserted in the PCMCIA slot
(i.e., plug and play).
To enable Windows 95/98 plug and play support for PCMCIA cards, run
the PCMCIA
wizard by double clicking on the PCMCIA icon in Control Panel.
The PCMCIA wizard comments out any real-mode PC Card drivers in the AUTOEXEC.BAT
and CONFIG.SYS files and enables 32-bit Windows 95/98 support for PCMCIA
sockets.
-
After rebooting Windows 95 OEM Service Release 2 (OSR2 version 4.00.950
B) with the Ethernet portion of the Datafire GO! Pro card installed,

Disable Windows 95 OSR2 power management by performing the following
steps:
1. Remove the Datafire GO! Pro card from the
PCMCIA socket.
2. Restart the computer.
3. When you see the "Starting Windows 95"
message, press the F8 key.
4. Choose "Safe Mode" from the Startup menu.
5. Go to Control Panel, Power.
6. Select the PC Card Modem tab.
7. Uncheck the "Turn off PC Card modem when
not in use" box.

9. Click OK.
10. Shut down and then restart the computer normally.
-
What are the minimum system requirements for installing the Datafire
GO! Pro product?
A 486 laptop with a 60 mHz processor and 8 MB RAM.
-
The analog and/or ISDN portions of the Datafire GO! Pro product are
working fine, but GSM is not.
Verify that the firmware installed for the Datafire GO! Pro support GSM. Access
the Datafire GO! Pro analog modem through Hyperterminal. Send
an "AT*I" command to the modem and verify that the firmware listed in the
response includes GSM. If it does not,
run the PC Card Loader to flash the card with a firmware option that
includes GSM support.
-
With the GSM option for the Datafire GO! Pro product installed, when
dialing a data number the phone dials, but after 5-20 seconds it
disconnects.
Try the following:
1. Check the quality of the GSM network - do
voice calls work properly?
2. Run Hyperterminal.
3. Send an "AT*I" command to the analog modem.
4. Verify that the firmware listed in the
response includes GSM support.
5. Send "ATS95=44" to the modem and then try
dialing the same number again.
Also try another number,
such as the number of an ISP, for example.
6. If this fails, send "AT&F&WZ" to
reinitialize the Datafire GO! Pro, then try to dial a
data number again.
-
Whenever I try to dial out from the Datafire GO! Pro using a
Motorola GSM phone, the phone powers off.
This may be caused by one of the following reasons:
1. The Motorola GSM phone only recognizes PC Cards during its
power on procedure. You must switch off the Motorola GSM phone
before you plug it into the Datafire GO! Pro card. Once the Motorola
GSM phone is plugged into the Datafire GO! Pro card, power the phone on
and try to dial out again.
2. Motorola GSM phones power off automatically when PC Cards are
switched off by the system for energy saving (under Windows 95 OSR2).
You must disable the energy saving function of the system to avoid this
problem. Go to Control Panel, Power. Select the PC Card Modem
tab. Uncheck the "Turn off PC Card Modem when not in use" box.
-
What fax modes are supported by the Datafire GO! Pro
product?
Fax class 1 and Fax class 2 are supported by the Datafire GO! Pro product.
-
How do I completely remove the Datafire GO! Pro driver from Windows
95/98?
First go to Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs and remove the 56K PC
Card option. Then go to Windows Explorer. Go to the /Windows/Inf
directory and remove the following files if the are present:

ethgen.inf
mdmgen.inf
Shut down the system and remove the PC Card.
-
When updating the firmware for the Datafire GO! Pro in a Toshiba
laptop you receive an error message "PCMCIA Card Loader Error - A timeout
has occurred while waiting for PCMCIA card response".
Follow these steps to correct this problem:
1. Go to Start, Programs, Toshiba Utilities, Hardware Setup, Hardware
Options, PC Card.
2. Change the "PC Card Controller Mode" from "Auto Selected" to
"PCIC Compatible"
3. Reboot the system.
-
What is PCS (Personal Communications Services)?
PCS is a new form of digital wireless communications. PCS systems
operate on a higher
and broader portion of the radio frequency spectrum than current cellular
networks. PCS operates in 140 mHz of spectrum between 1850 and 1990
mHz. Cellular occupies only 50 mHz between 824 to 849 and 869 to
894 mHz. PCS networks can efficiently handle several times the call
capacity of cellular. Because PCS is 100 percent digital, voice quality
on a PCS phone is exceptional - clear, crisp, and free of interference
and cross talk.
-
I want to use Multilink PPP with the Datafire GO! Pro, what do I
need?
You will need Dial up Networking version 1.3 or higher.
-
I'm having trouble getting the Datafire GO! Pro card to
respond.
There is probably some kind of device conflict with the system.
Check the following:
1. Check for Infrared devices. If they exist, Disable them.
2. Check the device status within the Device Manager. If all
of the devices show “Working Properly” then check for any possible IRQ
or Port conflicts with other defined devices, e.g., other modems, COM ports,
or NICs.
3. Check for EMM386 exclude statements within the system.ini file or
within the config.sys file. If there are any exclude statements,
remove them, restart the system and try to configure the card again.
4. Under Windows NT, you must physically remove all PCMCIA devices
from
your laptop, which includes undocking it from any docking stations.
This action
is required because of the limitations in support that Microsoft Windows
NT provides for
laptops. Please note that because of the limitations of Windows
NT, the Datafire
GO! Pro may not work in all models of laptops.
