Windows NT WAN Access Windows NT WAN Access
Problem:
How can I get WAN access in Microsoft Windows NT?
Solution:
WAN Access for NT (WAC) is a software package written by The
Software Group, Ltd.,(TSG) based in Barrie, Ontario, Canada. Digi no
longer OEMs or supports this package as its own.
There are two versions of WAC presently being used by
customers, 1.0.9b and 1.2.1. Although the driver and software installation
is similar for each, the protocols supported for each differ. For
technical support, you will need to contact The Software Group, Ltd.

Both versions also include a completely documented SYNC
API, including source code examples, headers, and API specifications. The use of
Frame Relay, X.25, or HDLC will require the implementation of this API within
the customer's application.
The PPP, SNA, and the IP Over protocols will not, under
normal usage, entail the utilization of the SYNC API.
Known Issues/Limitations:
- The S/570i 4port PCI adapter is not fully supported.
WAC is not limited to a single line of the adapter for running Frame or
X.25. If running Frame on one line and X.25 on another, you will be able to
use two lines.
- With v1.2.1, installing SNA or PPP excludes all other
supported protocols from being available. This affects the entire server.
- WAC is licensed software, requiring one unique
license per server. If the WAC protocol services detect a duplicated
license, it will initiate a random timer. Once expired, the protocol stack
being used will be stopped, forcing you to reboot the server.
