The following error message is displayed after loading NBI.NLM: 

WARNING: This version of NetWare does not support protected mode BIOS accesses.  Without a loader patch some PCI drivers may fail.

Solution:

The NetWare driver version 3.x for the DataFire Basic is using NetWare Bus Interface (NBI) in order to use the basic PCI environment functions.  In some cases, problems may occur with the DataFire Basic PCI configuration using Ixinstal.

The major advantage of NBI is that a standard interface is used, which is provided by Novell.  However, this means that the complete PCI functionality depends on this central interface module, which requires an up-to-date version on NetWare.

If NetWare Bus Interface (NBI) runs in a system environment, which does not correspond to the underlying patch specifications, after loading NBI.NLM, the following error message is displayed: 

WARNING: This version of NetWare does not support protected mode BIOS accesses.  Without a loader patch some PCI drivers may fail.

If the adapter is detected incorrectly, reinstalling the relevant NetWare patches should resolve this.

NOTE: Make sure that on the different NetWare platforms (3.x, 4.x), the APPROPRIATE version of NBI.NLM is being used.
