Installation Error When Installing EPCA in RedHat Linux
"Using /lib/modules/2.x.x-x/kernel/drivers/char/epca.o
/lib/modules/2.x.x-x/kernel/drivers/char/epca.o:
invalid parameter parm_mod_type
Module load failed" Installation Error When Installing EPCA in RedHat Linux
"Using /lib/modules/2.x.x-x/kernel/drivers/char/epca.o
/lib/modules/2.x.x-x/kernel/drivers/char/epca.o:
invalid parameter parm_mod_type
Module load failed"

Symptom:

After installing the epca driver, any attempt to start the driver with the "service epca start" command the following error is reported:

Using /lib/modules/2.x.x-x/kernel/drivers/char/epca.o
/lib/modules/2.x.x-x/kernel/drivers/char/epca.o:
invalid parameter parm_mod_type
Module load failed

Cause:

  • This is due to the old built-in module conflicting with the new driver module installation.

Solution:

  • Please remove or rename:

    /lib/modules/2.x.x-x/kernel/drivers/char/epca.o

  • After removing/renaming the above file, try the 'service epca start' command again.
