I can't open the Digi COM ports with HyperTerminal in Windows 2000. I can't open the Digi COM ports with HyperTerminal in Windows 2000.
Symptom: The driver seems to have installed fine, the ports and the modems show up under Device Manager, but HyperTerminal can't open the COM ports.
Cause:
- RRAS or another program which uses the COM ports is running.
- The adapter was not installed correctly.
- There is a resource conflict with another installed device.
Solutions:
Stop RRAS or whatever application has the COM port open (many fax applications open the COM ports when they start up) and then try HyperTerminal again.
Remove the adapter from the Device Manager, follow the procedure to remove Phantom Ports at the URL listed below, then reinstall the adapter using the most current drivers.
Check to make sure that the Digi adapter has unique resources. You may need to specify resources in the system BIOS. Some computer manufacturers require you to run a configuration utility to do this.
