I can't open the Digi COM ports with HyperTerminal in Windows 2000.
I can't open the Digi COM ports with HyperTerminal in Windows 2000. I can't open the Digi COM ports with HyperTerminal in Windows 2000.

Symptom:

The driver seems to have installed fine, the ports and the modems show up under Device Manager, but HyperTerminal can't open the COM ports.

Cause:

  • RRAS or another program which uses the COM ports is running.

  • The adapter was not installed correctly.

  • There is a resource conflict with another installed device.

Solutions:

  • Stop RRAS or whatever application has the COM port open (many fax applications open the COM ports when they start up) and then try HyperTerminal again.

  • Remove the adapter from the Device Manager, follow the procedure to remove Phantom Ports at the URL listed below, then reinstall the adapter using the most current drivers.

  • Check to make sure that the Digi adapter has unique resources. You may need to specify resources in the system BIOS. Some computer manufacturers require you to run a configuration utility to do this.
