When trying to access a port, Windows 95 (or Windows 98, or ME) gives the error "The port could not be set to the specified I/O address". When trying to access a port, Windows 95 (or Windows 98, or ME) gives the error "The port could not be set to the specified I/O address".
Symptom: Windows returns the error "The port could not be set to the specified I/O address" when trying to access a port of a Digi ISA type adapter.
Cause:
Another device is using the I/O address that the Digi card is set to use.
The dip switch settings on the board do not match the I/O address chosen in the driver configuration.
The installed driver is for a different adapter.
Solutions:
Change the I/O address for both the driver and the physical dip switches that the Digi is using to one that is not already in use.
Change the dip switch settings to match the configured I/O address, or change the configured I/O address to match the dip switch settings. Shut the system down before changing the dip switches.
Uninstall the incorrect driver and install the correct one. To remove the adapter, from the Start menu choose Settings > Control Panel > System > Device Manager. Remove the Digi adapter listed under Digi Intelligent Asynchronous adapters.
