Error code 19 "configuration information in the registry is incomplete or damaged" when installing a Digi adapter in Windows 2000 or XP.
Error code 19 "configuration information in the registry is incomplete or damaged" when installing a Digi adapter in Windows 2000 or XP. Error code 19 "configuration information in the registry is incomplete or damaged" when installing a Digi adapter in Windows 2000 or XP.

Symptom:

I receive error code 19 "configuration information in the registry is incomplete or damaged" when installing a Digi adapter in Windows 2000 or XP.

Cause:

  • The Digi drivers rely on the standard serial driver included with Windows 2000 and XP. When the built in hardware serial ports are disabled in the system's BIOS, it prevents the Windows serial driver from starting and thus the Digi driver will not load correctly.

    Solutions:

  • As per Microsoft Knowledge Base article Q295773, at least one hardware serial port must be enabled for the Digi driver to install properly. Then you can disable the serial port in the BIOS and rename the Digi COM ports as you like.

You can check to see if the serial driver has loaded by checking Show Hidden Devices in Device Manager under the View menu.
