Setup Guide: C/X Remote with Multitech Modems
Setup Guide: C/X Remote with Multitech Modems Setup Guide: C/X Remote with Multitech Modems

Setup Guide: C/X Remote with Multitech Modems The C/X and EPC/X concentrator systems can be setup for remote operation with a variety of synchronous links. The setup below is for a pair of Multitech MT2834BA or MT2834BL modems using Voice/Data Dialing over standard dialup phone lines. Note: Prior to installing the C/CON or EPC/CON at a remote site, all of the components must be set up and tested at the Host Adapter location.

    This installation was tested with:
  • An installed C/X Host Adapter (clock speed of 19200) with associated C/CON
  • A pair of MT2834BA or MT2834BL modems
  • A pair of Digi RS232 Synchronous Modem cables
  • A pair of working dialup lines
  • A terminal with DB25 cable to send commands to the modem
  1. Make sure all DIP switches on both modems are at their asynchronous default. Connect a terminal to the modems and send command
    AT&W1Z
    to each of them. This ensures the modems are at default.

  2. Connect one of the modems to the Host Adapter with a Synchronous Modem cable, and plug a working phone line into the jack marked LINE on the back of the modem. This modem will now be known as the Host Modem.

  3. Connect a terminal to the other modem, and program the Host Modem's phone number into it by sending the command
    ATDTN1
    You should get an "OK" response back. Program this modem for Voice/Data dialing by sending the command
    AT$VD1&W
    You should once again receive an "OK" response. This modem will now be known as the Dialing Modem.

  4. Plug the other working phone line into the Dialing Modem, then disconnect the terminal and connect the Dialing Modem to the C/CON unit with the Synchronous Modem cable.

  5. Set the Host Modem with DIP switches 1,6, and 11 DOWN {the rest UP}
    Set the Dialing Modem with DIP switches 1 and 11 DOWN {the rest UP}
    Switch 1 DOWN is Forced DTR, Switch 11 DOWN is Internal Clocking, Switch 6 is Master/Slave Clock.

  6. To establish the link between the Dialing and Host Modems, toggle the Answ/Orig switch on the front of the Dialing Modem into the Orig position. The Dialing Modem should go off hook, dial the phone number programmed into memory, and establish a synchronous connection with the Host Modem. At this point, turn the C/CON unit on and it should go from P1--P2--P4--AC. The link is now operational.

  7. Now, all that remains will be to move the Dialing Modem and C/CON unit to the desired remote location, plug everything in, and redo step 6. When you get AC on the C/CON, your work is complete.
