Fixed problems and new features ---------------------------------- New Features - Y2K conformity for ITK MPR 3.1 and RAR 4000 - NetWare 5 support for active ISDN boards - enhanced accounting functionality - changed handling of backup files: if accounting file or trace file grows bigger than configured( MaxFileSize ), it's copied into the ETC directory and renamed to yymmdd. (same extension). If the volume space is getting low, the first file of the same kind will be overwritten. The maximal number of backup files is user-definable in ix1cca.cfg (MaxBackupFiles). Fixed Problems - add channel bundling mode: "Manual" for WAN-ODI - add PPP compression as parameter for WAN-ODI - correct handling of specially sized V.110/Modem packets - PPP IP Address assignment fixed (double or random IP addresses) - crash when editing outgoing dialnumber fixed - PPP MLP is now allowed for 2 Channels only - D64S activates all permanent connections if controller has been reloaded - log file start time (1.1970 0:00) - no counting of discarded packets in statistic 2. Installation --------------- This Service Pack updates existing installations of ITK MPR 3.1, ITK RAR 4000 and ITK NetBlazer 4400. 1) Copy the self extracting archive to the sys:nb4400 directory of you server. 2) Extract it by simply executing it. 3) Install the Service Pack from the server console by: "load install" choose "Install a new product". Press and specify the installation path: "SYS:NB4400" 4) after installation restart all components using the batch "connect.ncf" If you get multiple Errors: "Loader cannot find public symbol: CMSMGet...." refer to "3. Recommenced patch level for NetWare Servers" 3. Recommenced patch level for NetWare Servers ---------------------------------------------- The NetBlazer 4400 requires a minimum set of patches for the respective releases of the NetWare OS. Minimum list of installed patches: NetWare 3.12 312ptd ODI33F LIB312A NetWare 4.10 410PT8B LIBUPH STRTL6 ODI33F NetWare 4.11 LIBUPH IWSP5B For further information contact Novell at http://support.novell.de As the latest version of ITK's modules require updates to some system files, they are included in the service pack. These modules are NOT installed automatically ! So, if you should have any problems, back-up the old files and copy all updates from the ODI33 directory (and subdirectories) into the sys:system directory of your server. For more information about these files please refer to ODI33F.EXE, which is provided by Novell. 4. Files belonging to ITK NetBlazer 4400 ---------------------------------------- The ITK NetBlazer 4400 files are placed in the subdirectories named 'SYS:SYSTEM' and 'SYS:ETC'. The following files are created or used by the ITK NetBlazer 4400: IX1.LAN "LAN driver" for ISDN WAN-ODI mode IX1.LDI "LAN driver" information file for IX1.LAN, read by inetcfg.nlm DISCON.NCF batch file to unload ISDN drivers REIN_SYS.NCF batch file to unload/reload the ISDN drivers in inetcfg environments RI.NCF batch file to reinitialize the system and to activate configuration changes made in inetcfg CONNECT.NCF customized batch file to unload/reload ISDN drivers MAN_LOAD.NCF batch file to unload/reload ISDN drivers in non-inetcfg environments IX1VETH.LAN "LAN driver" for ISDN Virtual Ethernet mode IX1VETH.LDI "LAN driver" information file for IX1VETH.LAN, read by inetcfg.nlm IX1PPP.NLM module for PPP support over ISDN IX1DSH49.NLM module to handle dynamic short-hold IX1NAT.NLM module for TCP/IP Masquerading IX1TRAP.NLM module to generate SNMP Traps IX1SPX.NLM module that provides ISDN SPX filters IX1SMCP.NLM support module used by CAPIplus drivers IX1SMC2.NLM support module used by CAPI 2.0 drivers IXCAPI.NLM CAPI driver for active ITK ISDN boards IXDBP.NLM support module for IXCAPI.NLM IXMICRO.NLM driver for the passive ITK ISDN board ITK Micro ITKDM.NLM driver for ITK DigitalModem board IXCALI11.NLM CAPI library for active ITK ISDN boards IXCALI1P.NLM CAPI library for ITK DigitalModem board IXCALI20.NLM CAPI library for CAPI 2.0 drivers. Known problems ----------------- The current ITK NB4400 implementation of SPX spoofing does not support SPX II. 6. NetWare 5.0 ----------------- If you are using the graphical console on the server, any process on processor 0 is slowed down. The processor is working exclusively for the GUI can not be interrupted by other processes. This may cause the ISDN connection to lose packets, so that the performance is affected. NetWare 5.0 Beta 3: If you are using NetWare 5.0 Beta 3 there is a problem with the Logo Screen. If the server loads the Logo-Screen while startup and the ITK ISDN driver, the server will crash later if you try to work with the ITK desktop. A work around is, not to display the Logo screen while startup, by loading the server with the -nl switch not to load the Logo Screen. To load the server without displaying the logo type: "server -nl" at the dosprompt. 7. Support of ITK Octo ---------------------- The current version of the ISDN driver software is able to handle ITK Octo and ITK Basic boards. Due to the fact that it is not possible to auto-detect whether a ITK Basic is equipped with an Octo expansion card or not, you have to edit the ix1.ini manually. Please refer to the ITK manual "Installation and interfaces". 8. Special Drivers for ITK Hardware ----------------------------------- This Service Pack contains no firmware files for your active ITK ISDN controllers. All firmware files delivered with your NetBlazer 4400 CD-ROM are still up-to-date. 9. Remarks concerning NLSP NetWare Link Service Protocol -------------------------------------------------------- The NLSP routing protocol (IPX) is designed to reduce the traffic in large internetworks by shortening the time of information distribution about network changes. For this purpose each router polls its "neighbor" every 20 seconds. If no changes occur, the router will announce its routing information to EVERY single NLSP router in the network every 120 minutes. We suggest to use NLSP on LANs only. Therefore RIP/SAP routing should be used on ISDN WAN links, instead. How to switch off NLSP: -> load inetcfg.nlm -> select "Bindings" -> select "IPX binding to board" -> select "Expert Bind Options" -> select "NLSP Bind options" -> change the NLSP State to "off" 10. Remarks concerning NetWare Management System ------------------------------------------------ If you are using the Novell NetWare Management System with an installed NetExplorer on one or more server(s), this/these server(s) will continuously scan the whole network. This is done by using IPX Diagnostic, IPX SNMP, SPX and NCP packets. Due to the fact that SPX and NCP Packets are also used to exchange user data an active NetExplorer will cause that the respective ISDN lines are brought up frequently !!
