Requirements and Considerations

Read the following information before beginning the installation of the Digi Neo driver.

Note: You must remove any previous versions of this driver before installing the new driver.

Hardware and Operating Systems Supported:

The Digi Neo driver for Linux is supported on the following hardware platforms:

Standard i386/i486 and
Pentium PC

The Linux distributions currently supported can be found in the Release Notes on the Digi Access Resource CD.

Installation Directory

The Digi Neo driver for Linux places the installation files in the /etc/digicpci directory. See man cpci and man dpa for more information.

The release notes are installed in different directories dependent on the Linux version being used. Enter the command rpm -q -d cpci to locate the release notes for your particular Linux version . The directory location and filenames are displayed.

Known limitations:

For RedHat 7.0 and 7.1 you must use the kgcc compiler available with the RedHat distribution. The Linux default compiler gcc 2.96 does not compile the Digi Neo driver properly.
The Linux tty subsystem is known to have throughput limitations. 460 kbps users can expect speed bottlenecks as a result of these limitations.
SMP (symmetric multiprocessing) with 2.2.14 kernels and earlier experience a race condition in the Linux tty subsystem code, which causes buffer corruption problems. The Digi driver depends on the Linux tty subsystem to operate properly. SMP users must use a 2.2.15 or later kernel to properly install the driver.
Uniprocessor users are not affected by this problem.
