Troubleshooting Tips

Use these guidelines if you have problems with the installation of a Linux driver:

• Verify whether you are running SMP kernels in an SMP system. In systems 2.2.x and later you can enter the command uname -a and locate the SMP flag in the kernel id.
• If you have unresolved symbol errors, the following procedure should recompile the headers provided the headers are kept in a standard location.
1. Issue the following commands:

   cd /usr/src/linux
cp .config config.keep

   (The last command saves a copy of your current configuration as the file config.keep)

   make distclean
make old config
make menuconfig

2. Select processor type and features
3. Confirm SMP is on for SMP kernel or off for a non-SMP kernel.
4. Save settings
5. Enter the following command:

   make dep

• A loopback diagnostic test is part of the Digi Port Authority (DPA) program and can be run against any selected channel by pressing the T (or t) key from the channel monitoring screen. A loop back plug must be installed in the port to be tested.
