Configuring the Driver
Use this procedure for Microsoft Windows 2000 to access the ClassicBoard Setup window if it is not already displayed.
Procedure
-
From the Control Panel, choose System > Hardware > Device Manager >
Multiport serial adapters.
- Choose the ClassicBoard adapter you wish to configure.
-
Choose Action > Properties.
The ClassicBoard Properties page appears.
- Choose Advanced.
Configuration Options
You can access two configuration options through the Advanced tab on the ClassicBoard Properties page: port names and FIFO buffer settings. The FIFO settings are advanced features that do not normally need to be changed. Choose Help on each option’s configuration window for more information.
Port Name Configuration
The port name (COM number) assigned to each ClassicBoard port must be unique throughout the system. The device driver automatically assigns COM numbers to ClassicBoard ports based on the serial ports already defined in the Windows 2000 system configuration. On the Advanced properties page you can do the following:
- Rename one port. Use the following procedure to rename a specific ClassicBoard port:
- From the list of ClassicBoard ports, select the port you wish to rename.
- Under Change COM Number, use the COM field to specify the new port name as
COMn, where n is a number you enter in the field.
- Choose Set COM Number.
- Rename all ports. Use the following procedure to rename all ports on the adapter at once:
- Under COM Number Enumeration, use the COM field to specify the name of the first adapter port as
COMn, where n is a number you enter in the field.
- Choose Enumerate All Ports to rename all adapter ports sequentially, starting with the first adapter port.
A warning message is displayed if the ports cannot be renamed in a contiguous block.
FIFO Buffer Settings
Choose FIFO Settings on the Advanced properties page to access the FIFO Settings window. Choose Help for information about the FIFO buffer settings. Use the following procedure to change the FIFO settings for each port:
- From the list of ClassicBoard ports, select the port you wish to change.
- Change the FIFO settings as follows:
- Use the Receive Trigger slider to control the Receive Trigger level.
- Use the Transmit Trigger slider to control the Transmit Trigger level.
- Clear the Transmit FIFO Enable checkbox to force the driver to send only one byte at a time to the UART, effectively ignoring any Transmit FIFO present on the UART.
- To restore the default trigger levels, choose Defaults.
