Troubleshooting Tips
Use these troubleshooting tips if you should have problems with your
Microsoft Windows
2000
installation:
- To access Windows 2000 troubleshooting assistance:
- From the Control Panel, choose System > Hardware > Device Manager >
Multiport serial adapters.
- Right-click on the ClassicBoard adapter you wish to troubleshoot.
- Choose Properties. The ClassicBoard Properties page appears.
- Choose General to view the Device Status window. If this indicates that the device is not operating properly, choose Troubleshooting and follow the instructions to resolve any basic installation or configuration problems.
-
Windows logs an error report if it encounters a problem while initializing the device.
You can view these errors using the Event Viewer, EVENTVWR.EXE, supplied
with Windows 2000.
- Use the program WINMSD.EXE, supplied with Windows 2000, to determine the hardware resources allocated to each device. If a ClassicBoard device fails to initialize, no resources are allocated for that device.
- If you are writing your own application and you want to use COM port names
beyond COM9, remember that the COM port names must be prefixed by
"\\.\". For example, COM10 must be referred to as \\.\COM10.
