Using Ping

Use the Ping program to determine whether the EtherLite module is connected to the network. Pinging the EtherLite module from a system on the same subnet eliminates several possible problems that might hinder troubleshooting procedures.

Procedure

  1. At the command prompt enter:

    ping IP address

An example is: ping 143.111.2.150. The response, if the EtherLite is found by the network, will vary according to the operating system, but will give some form of a "Time to Live (ttl)" reply. If the EtherLite module is not found, a "Network is unreachable" or a similar message is displayed.

  2. In the event the response is "Network is unreachable", check to make sure the IP address was entered correctly. If the IP address was correct, see the Troubleshooting portion of this documentation.
  3. Exit the program.
