Conducting the Loopback Test

Use this procedure to perform a loopback test to ensure that the port on the adapter is working properly.

The counters measure the number of tests performed. If the test is successful, the same number of bytes transmitted are the same number that are received correctly.

Procedure

  1. Get the loopback connector included in your software package.
  2. Plug the adapter into the port with which you are working.
  3. Go to the Serial Summary screen in the PortAssist Manager program for the port with which you are working.
  4. Choose Test on the port you want to test.
  5. Choose External Loopback Test > OK.
  6. Configure for the test by choosing the correct Baud Rate and Data Format.
  7. Choose Start Test.
  8. Note the results. The screen will be refreshed with the latest results every 10, 15, or 30 seconds depending on which timeframe you have configured.
  9. Choose Stop Test once you have taken note of the results of the test.

Or if you want to continue testing this port but want to test other ports or perform other tasks, choose Return to Monitoring. Display Results will appear in the port you are continuing to test.

  10. To return to this port, choose Display Results.
  11. If you pass all the tests, but your port still experiences problems, you should test your cable.
  12. If you fail all or some of the tests, there could be a hardware problem with the port on your adapter. Call Digi Tech Support for help.
