Use this procedure to change the number of a serial port in Microsoft Windows NT. You can renumber ports individually or collectively.
Individually Renumbering Ports
Access the configuration utility by choosing Control Panel > Network > Adapters.
Choose your adapter from the list and then Properties.
The Digi AccelePort adapter properties page appears.
From the list of serial ports, choose a port to renumber and then Properties.
Note: Use the down arrow to scroll for a new serial port number, you can not select a port that is marked "in use."
Choose a new number and then Ok. Repeat this process for each serial port you wish to renumber.
After renumbering your ports choose Ok > Close > Yes to reboot your system.
Automatically Renumbering Ports
Access the configuration utility by choosing Control Panel > Network > Adapters.
Choose your adapter from the list and then Properties.
The Digi AccelePort adapter properties page appears.
From the list of serial ports, choose a port to renumber and then Properties.
Note: Use the down arrow to scroll for a new serial port number, you can not select a port that is marked "in use."
Choose a new number and check the Renumber Remaining COM ports box.
Choose Ok and all succeeding ports will automatically be renumbered.
Choose Ok > Close > Yes to reboot your system.
