Upgrading the Driver

Use this procedure to upgrade a Digi device driver that is installed in your Windows XP system. Digi drivers may be delivered on a CD-ROM or downloaded from the Digi Support Web site (http://supportold.digi.com). Digi drivers for Microsoft Windows XP may be either signed or unsigned.

Procedure

  1. From the Start menu, choose Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager.

Note: If you have set the Windows XP Start menu to the "classic" mode, choose Settings > Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager.

  2. From the displayed list, choose Multi-port serial adapters.
  3. Choose a Digi adapter from the list, then choose Action > Properties.
  4. On the Digi adapter Properties page, choose the Driver tab, then choose Update Driver. Do not uninstall the old driver. The Windows Upgrade Device Driver Wizard appears.
  5. Choose Next. On the Install Hardware Device Drivers page, choose Display a list of known drivers for this device... > Next.
  6. On the Select a Device Driver page, choose the name of the Digi adapter, then choose Have Disk.
  7. Your new driver will be on a Digi CD-ROM or downloaded from the Digi Support Web site. Choose Browse to point to the appropriate driver location. The wizard should display the driver's .inf file at that location. Choose Open.
  8. To install the new driver, choose OK > Next > Next.
  9. For any new driver that is unsigned, Windows displays a "Digital Signature Not Found" message, explaining that the driver is not signed. Choose Yes to continue through the message.
  10. Choose Finish to complete the wizard, then choose Close to close the Properties page. A message will display indicating that you must restart your system for the changes to take effect.
