admin

Use the admin command to temporarily access commands reserved for administrators (root) when you have logged in as a normal (non-root) user. This is similar to the UNIX su (superuser) command. After issuing the admin command, the device/terminal server prompts you to supply the root password. Normal users can issue the admin command.

Command Syntax

Enter the admin command as shown below:

admin

Command Example

In this example, the admin command initiates the following sequence:

1. The device/terminal server displays a prompt requesting the root password.
2. The user enters the root password.
3. If the password is:
   • Accepted, the device/terminal server displays the root prompt and the user can issue commands reserved for administrators.
   • Not accepted, the device/terminal server displays the following:

     Incorrect password

     admin

To end a temporary root session, use either the exit or quit command.
