Upgrading the Driver

Use this procedure to upgrade Digi device drivers for Microsoft Windows XP adapters already installed in your system.

Caution: Do not use the Update Driver button on the Driver properties page. This starts the Windows Upgrade Device Driver Wizard, the conventional method of upgrading Windows XP drivers. When used with Digi drivers, this wizard can install mismatched driver components.

Because a Digi device driver often supports multiple types of adapters, you must use the Digi Driver Upgrade Wizard to upgrade drivers. The wizard resolves possible driver conflicts and ensures that the correct drivers install for the Digi adapters in your system.

Digi drivers may be delivered on a CD-ROM or downloaded from the Digi Support Web site (http://supportold.digi.com). Digi drivers for Windows XP may be either signed or unsigned.

Procedure

  1. Run the Digi Driver Upgrade Wizard using one of the following methods:

When the wizard runs, it automatically upgrades any installed drivers that it finds. For any new driver that is unsigned, Windows displays a "Digital Signature Not Found" message, explaining that the driver is not signed. You may see several of these warnings during the installation.

  2. Choose Yes to continue through each of the warnings. This ensures that the most current driver software is installed.
  3. Follow the instructions to complete the installation. For most Digi adapters, a configuration wizard starts automatically as part of the installation process.

Refer to the on-line help system for assistance. When the installation is complete, the adapter is ready to use. There is no need to restart Windows unless you are told to do so.
