Testing a Port

Use this procedure to test a Digi port.

  1. Disable login (if it is enabled) and any other services or processes open on the port.
  2. Perform one or more of the following tests on the port. The PortAssist Manager loopback test is the most flexible of these test.

    Digi Port Authority Loopback Test

    See Performing a Loopback Test using DPA.

    This test sends information through a loopback plug attached to the port.  It tests all the signals on the port.

    Basic Loopback Test

    See Testing a Port with a Loopback Plug.

    This test sends information through a loopback plug and back to the console. It tests the ports ability to transmit and receive data.

    Dumb Terminal Echo Test

    See Testing a Port with a Dumb Terminal.

    This test sends information to a dumb terminal attached to the port.  It tests the port's ability to transmit data.

  3. If any of these tests fail, check the following:
  4. If you make corrections in the previous step, retest the port. Enable the port for login again if necessary.
