Verify the Ethernet Cabling

Use this procedure to troubleshoot network cabling problems.

  1. Check the Ethernet cable. Verify the following:
  2. Ensure that you are not connecting PortServer or PortServer II to a 100 mbps Ethernet network. While PortServer TS 8/16 and PortServer TS 2/4 support 10/100 mbps, PortServer and PortServer II support 10 mbps only.
  3. If you have a PortServer or PortServer II and are using a Thinnet (10Base2) cable, make sure the cable selector switch on the PortServer is in the left-handed position. If you are using a Twisted Pair (10Base2) cable, make sure the cable selector switch on the PortServer is in the right-handed position.
  4. Verify your Ethernet hub. See your Ethernet hub manual.
