Testing the Port Connection: Windows NT

Use this troubleshooting procedure to test the port connection from the Windows NT operating system.

Procedure

Note: Before disconnecting any cabling, ensure you have disabled the services (if you have already enabled them) on that port. 

  1. Place the loopback plug in the port you want to test.

  2. Access Windows NT HyperTerminal by choosing Start > Programs > Accessories > HyperTerminal > HyperTerminal.

  3. Under Connection description, enter a connection name and choose OK.

  4. From the Connecting using drop down menu, choose the port and OK.

  5. Ignore the port settings and choose OK.

  6. The lower left hand on the window should display a connection time.  

  7. Type anything.

  8. Choose Back to return to and continue with the Master Troubleshooting Process.
