Controlling Access to the Command Line

This section describes how to restrict access to a Digi devices command line for those users who have been allowed access to a serial port.

Method 1 Autoconnection

The autoconnection feature allows you to configure a user to access the Digi device but then be automatically connected to a host on the LAN.

You can implement autoconnection in the following ways:

• By port. In this case, all port users are automatically connected to the same host. The Digi device is completely transparent to them.
• By user. In this case, a user is required to login and may be required to supply a password, but once the user is authenticated, an automatic connection to a hosts made.

Method 2: Menus

Menus select destination systems without having to access the Digi device's command line. For information on configuring menus, see the set menu command.
