EtherLite Utilities

Use the following utility programs to setup and configure the EtherLite modules on a network. These utility programs are available on the Digi support website at http://supportold.digi.com under Diagnostic Tools, Utilities, Applications, and Clients. The Sts-els folder contains most of these utility programs. Store IP is downloadable separately.

Utility Program

Store IP Store IP is the preferred Digi utility program for assigning an IP address to an EtherLite module. Store IP stores the IP address permanently and can also be used to remove or change an IP address. Store IP works on any Windows operating system. See Assigning an IP Address: Store IP.
Digi's BootP BootP typically assigns an IP address dynamically. However, the EtherLite modules cannot have a dynamically or random IP address assigned to them, but rather need a specific IP address. BootP provides for the configuration of the EtherLite module by assigning a specific IP address to a specific MAC address. BootP stores the IP address temporarily, when the EtherLite module loses power, the IP address is erased. See Assigning an IP Address: Digi's BootP.
Boot Console Boot Console enables the user to assign an IP address to an EtherLite module. This program is helpful when a BootP or DHCP server are unavailable or when there are multiple BootP or DHCP servers on a system indiscriminately assigning IP addresses. Boot Console also provides for the assignment of gateway, subnet mask, and an authorized host IP address. A thorough reference on Boot Console is available on the Digi website at http://supportold.digi.com. A simple "boot console" search on the website will return the desired documentation. See Boot Console Command Table, Assigning an IP Address (Temporary): Boot Console, and Assigning an IP Address ( Permanent): Boot Console.
TFTP TFTP is the abbreviation for Trivial File Transfer Protocol. TFTP is a simpler version of FTP that contains no security features and is frequently used by servers to boot diskless workstations, X-terminals, or routers. Digi uses a TFTP utility to update the firmware of the EtherLite modules. Firmware should only be updated at the direction of Digi Technical Support.
Verlog The verlog program utility displays information about EtherLite modules installed on a network. Verlog is primarily designed to display the EtherLite firmware version, but also displays the EtherLite model, its MAC address, and IP address. This utility does not function if an EtherLite module is not properly configured on a network. See Using Verlog.
Ping Ping runs under TCP/IP and verifies whether a specific IP address is connected to and functioning on a network. An EtherLite module correctly installed will respond to a Ping query of its assigned IP address. See Using Ping.
