General SVR4 Device Configuration

This topic describes how to configure serial ports, which includes configuring port direction (incoming and outgoing), transmission speed, and other port attributes.

Note: These procedures assume that a generic SVR4 port configuration utility called sysadm is available through your operating system. SCO UnixWare users should use the procedure found in General SCO UnixWare Device Configuration.

Enabling Login on a Port

  1. At a UNIX command prompt, type sysadm and then press <Enter>.
  2. Choose Ports > Quick Terminal > Add.
  3. Follow the remaining sysadm prompts.
  4. Repeat these steps for every port to be enabled.
  5. Exit sysadm.

Modifying Port Settings

  1. At a UNIX command prompt, type sysadm and then press <Enter>.
  2. Choose Ports > Ports Services > Modify.
  3. Follow the remaining sysadm prompts.
  4. Change the port parameters as needed.
  5. Repeat these steps for every port.
  6. Exit sysadm.
