Use this procedure to configure a RealPort device for a printer.
Connect a proper cable between the port and printer. See the PortServer Cable Guide.
Login to the PortServer as root. For information on logging onto a PortServer, see Configuring a PortServer for RealPort.
Set the port to dev=rp on the PortServer by entering this command at a PortServer root prompt:
set port dev=rp ra=12 This example sets PortServer port 12 to be a RealPort device. Note: If your PortServer firmware does not support the dev=rp option, use dev=prn instead.
If you are using 8-pin RJ-45 cabling from the
PortServer to the printer, set the port to altpin=on by entering this command at a
PortServer root prompt:
set port altpin=on ra=12
This example sets altpin=on for port 12 of a PortServer.
Enter this command at a root prompt:
smit printer
Choose Printer/Plotter Device > Add a Printer/Plotter > osp Other serial printer > rs232.
Choose an sa device.
Enter a port number in the PORT number field.
Set BAUD rate, PARITY, BITS per character, and number of STOP BITS to match the settings of the printer.
Set FLOW CONTROL to be used to match the flow control used by the printer.
If the Data Carrier Detect signal is not wired between the port and the peripheral device attached to it, set Force Carrier to enable.
Choose Enter to complete the TTY addition.
