Configuring a Device for a Printer

Use this procedure to configure a RealPort device for a printer. See your operating system documentation for more information on configuring a serial device for a printer.

Procedure

  1. In HP-UX, TTY devices require Data Carrier Detect to be high. This must either be tied high within the cable, or it can be forced high in the driver by entering this ditty command for the port in a startup file:

    ditty forcedcd ttya12

The device, ttya01, is used as an example in this command.

  2. Connect a proper cable between the port and printer. See the PortServer Cable Guide.

  3. Set the port to dev=rp on the PortServer by entering this command at a PortServer root prompt:

    set port dev=rp ra=12

This example sets PortServer port 12 to be a RealPort device.

Note: If your PortServer firmware does not support the dev=rp option, use dev=prn instead.

  4. If you are using 8-pin RJ-45 cabling from the PortServer to the terminal, set the port to altpin=on by entering this command at a PortServer root prompt:

    set port altpin=on ra=12

This example sets altpin=on for port 12 of a PortServer.
