Master Setup Process: SNA Server

Use this process to configure the DataFire SYNC adapter to work with Microsoft SNA Server on a Microsoft Windows 2000 system..

Note: You should not install the DataFire SYNC adapter before you run the Digi Driver Upgrade Wizard.

Process

  1. Become familiar with relevant general networking concepts and terms. You should also have a basic understanding of the networking protocols that your adapter will use. See the following topics:
  2. Gather the information you need to configure your link service. See the following:
  3. Install Microsoft SNA Server. You must do this before you install the DataFire SYNC adapter and the driver software. See the SNA Server documentation for more information.
  4. Run the Digi Driver Upgrade Wizard on your Windows 2000 system. See Requirements. This wizard helps you upgrade drivers for installed Digi adapters and add drivers for new adapters. Using the wizard ensures Windows Plug and Play installation of new adapters and drivers. See Installing the Driver for detailed information.
  5. Install the adapter. See the appropriate hardware installation card for information.

Note: When you install multiple PCI adapters of the same type on a Windows system, it is sometimes difficult to determine which adapter you are configuring. To avoid confusion, you may wish to install and configure the adapters one at a time.

If you run the Digi Driver Upgrade Wizard before installing the adapter, Windows automatically installs the correct driver.

  6. Configure communications lines. Configure the lines for SNA, even if you intend to use X.25 as the link service. For information on configuration fields, see the online help that is available from the Digi configuration utility. See Configuring the Adapter.
  7. Add the DataFire SYNC SDLC or X.25 link service to the SNA Server configuration. See Adding the Link Service to the SNA Server Configuration.
  8. Start the SNA service. See the SNA Server documentation for information.
