The problem:

Windows NT v4.0+SP3 uses encrypted passwords. Older versions of Samba (Windows File Sharing server for Unix) use plain-text passwords. This includes the Cobalt Qube 2700D and 2700WG.


The Solution:

Must be done under Windows NT 4.0 + Service Pack 3
  1. Run REGEDIT.EXE
  2. Go to
    1. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
    2. SYSTEM
    3. CurrentControlSet
    4. Services
    5. Rdr
    6. Parameters
  3. Add a new Key called EnablePlainTextPassword
    of type dword and value 0x00000001
  4. Restart Windows NT
