Master Setup Process: Standard Setup

Use this process to install and configure a DataFire SYNC adapter for typical network environments on your Windows 2000 system.

Note: You should not install the DataFire SYNC adapter before you run the Digi Driver Upgrade Wizard.

Process

  1. Become familiar with relevant general networking concepts and terms. You should also have a basic understanding of the networking protocols that your adapter will use. See the following topics:
  2. Gather the information necessary to configure the adapter. See the following topics:
  3. Run the Digi Driver Upgrade Wizard on your Windows 2000 system. See Requirements. This wizard helps you upgrade drivers for installed Digi adapters and add drivers for new adapters. Using the wizard ensures Windows Plug and Play installation of new adapters and drivers. See Installing the Driver for detailed information.
  4. Install the adapter. See the appropriate hardware installation card for information.

Note: When you install multiple PCI adapters of the same type on a Windows system, it is sometimes difficult to determine which adapter you are configuring. To avoid confusion, you may wish to install and configure the adapters one at a time.

If you run the Digi Driver Upgrade Wizard before installing the adapter, Windows automatically installs the correct driver.

  5. Configure the adapter for the communications lines it will use. See Configuring the Adapter.
  6. For X.25 and PPP connections, configure RAS ports and RAS permission levels. See Configuring Incoming Dial-up Networking Connections.
